Why does the ocean sometimes appear red or orange?

Occasionally, the algae grow very fast or "bloom" and accumulate into dense, visible patches near the surface of the water. "Red Tide" is a common name for such a phenomenon where certain phytoplankton species contain reddish pigments and "bloom" such that the water appears to be colored red.

There is a type of red algae that can make it red.

It can not. You just see it turn because of the sunset. you can see it has many colors, and it hits ocean, it reflects from the water.
