Actually, the chance of winning is . (6*5*4*3*2*1)/(49*48*47*46*45*44). as the problem is one of combinations rather than permutations.. . The sad fact is that there is *no way* to increase your chance of winning if you only buy one ticket.. . There are however two other methods that you can do to shake things up a bit:. . 1) Pool the tickets. Get together with 9 friends, get $1 from each, buy 10 different tickets. This will increase your chances of winning SOMETHING by 10, but will decrease the payout by 10, so it is a wash.. . 2) Pick numbers that people use less frequently. Many people use birthdates for their numbers, so those numbers are used more frequently. Choose greater than 31 with probability of more than 18/49. What this can do is not change the odds of winning the lottery, but perhaps IF you happen to win, you will have to share your winnings with fewer people.. . Bottom line, regardless of what anybody says, the little ping pong balls bouncing around in the lottery machine don't know and don't care which numbers came out before. They come out randomly, and there is nothing you can do about it.
