What were the main factors that led to the Civil War?

If it is the US civil war, indeed slavery was one reason, but tensions between Northern and Southern politicians is another problem as they couldn't effectively compromise over how to deal with slavery and 1850 Compromise, Missouri Compromise etcetra were not effective. Also, Lincoln's election as President is a cause as well as he was suspected to be against slavery as he was a Republican: as the Southern states succeeded in response to Lincoln's election, the North wanted the South to return = war. Also, arguments over who owned Fort Sumter is another cause. Other causes such as the break down of the two party system can be also claimed to have caused the civil war.

Most argue that the main, though not only, cause of the American Civil War was slavery. Others insist that the war was provoked by an overreaching federal government that refused to recognize the Southern states' rights.. . So why was the Civil War fought? That seems a simple enough question to answer: Just look at what those fighting the war had to say. If we do that, the lines are clear. Southern leaders said they were fighting to preserve slavery. Abraham Lincoln said the North fought to preserve the Union, and later, to end slavery. . . If you ask me it always appears to be about $$$$$ ... (that's the bottom line)

The U.S. Civil War was caused by black inssuregents in the Southern United States...If Abraham Lincoln wouldn't have stopped slavery, I wouldn't have to do the dishes, or clean or cook, or vaccum. Thank God for women I guess.
