PUT A COLD TEASPOON IN YOUR MOUTH THE WRONG WAY UP AND KEEP TONGUE IN CONTACT WITH IT.. IT REALLY WORKS!

Here is the trick. Do not cut off the base of the onion where the roots were. Cut around it.
