What percentage or amount is added to the cost of a skirt to determine the selling price?

Almost ALL retailers use the 100% rule. If they paid $50, they sell it for $100 or more.

boutique , buy at 50 , sell at 600 . target mid income market -- buy at 10 , sell at 35. . to cover outfits been stolen , admin fees , sales person commissions ..... later , those you can't sell , is going to be a 50% sales , to clear stock , 70% , so do concern and think carefully . but some items you can mark up less than that , sell it cheaper to attract people in , to buy your normal items. good luck

its a 200 to 300% mark up IE they pay 10 you pay 20 to 30.

It depends on the store. Ten years ago I worked at Nordstrom and the markup was 100% If they bought it for $150 they charged $300.
