Give him a job. They were bred to work and when they have nothing else to herd they try to herd you. See if you can divert pups attention away from people and on to something positive like a favorite toy. If pup is busy asking you to throw said toy or he is busy gathering (herding) toys in a favorite spot, he will be less likely to try to herd you.

Correct him before he actually bites. As soon as he gets excited and starts going for a heel, put him in a sit stay. Training and consistency are key with heelers.

This is a bred working cattle dog - its what they do to herd, yes? Why buy a working dog if you're not going to work it? Go with whoever suggested obedience classes, will require a lot of attention. Good luck

Make sure to stop this behavior before it stops being harmless! Heelers are named for that exact behavior - they will "heel" the livestock they herd, biting the ankles and feet. If they cannot herd livestock, they will "heel" you! There are several ways you can correct this problem, and some good suggestions have been made. You have to discipline a heeler more strictly than most dogs, as they are very strong-willed animals. Whatever method you choose, be consistent, and I'm sure you will be able to fix your problem before it gets worse. Good luck!

Have a heeler for two years now. Tried everything. Just loves to nip. I have gotten him to leave others alone and make it more of a play time with just me.

get a spray bottle filled with water and spray him when he does this and at the same time tell him no! Eventually he will get the association with the nipping and the spray of water.

An obedience class helps on top of the water bottle.

I have two heelers, actually my roommate does, and I think I'll try the water bottle suggestion but if you find something that works let me know cause I was just about to ask this question.
