They haven't changed the date that much. Last known date, is November 2006.

The PS3 will come out November 2006.. . The reason it was delayed was the apparent copyright of blue ray discs.. . It will cost around $600

one thing I know is that the technology they use for their disc is so new and advanced (blue ray technology) that the PS3 would cost tons of money right now. They have to wait for the technology to get develop for it to get cheaper and find cheaper ways to build the PS3.
