Because six or twelve jurors decide your fate. Then all of them have to agree. Its called trial by your peers.

I for one feel its completely wrong and unjust. Most people don't understand the actual laws that they are deciding upon. I'd rather have a judge who understands the law deciding my fate than 12 of my peers who are probably uneducated.. . I mean, you'd want a doctor to perform surgery on you instead of a teacher or a mechanic. Why wouldn't you want a judge deciding things based on law?

Cause the people decide your faith and not some judge that can be bought etc.. It's like why do we vote for our elected officials and important decisions instead of letting some important people decide all of this stuff.... same idea

It is the basis of democracy. Twelve of your peers deciding your fate. Rather than one corrupt judge or even three judges.

Because, the little mice planned it that way. They also planned for you to go to school, but you messed up all their plans. Way to go.

The trial by jury has a long history in western culture. While it had been in common law far into the distant past, it was first formalized in the first Great Charter (Magna Carta). It is part of what protects the individual from an intrusive government by a jury of peers. The members of the petite Jury judge the facts of the case to determine the guilt or innocence of the individual. In addition these jury members judge the application of the law in that case and can nullify that application through acquittal if they so desire.
