Why does the person in front of you sometimes scratch their nose while you are talking?

Well ask them what the issue is and they might be open enough to tell you if there is a problem. Maybe it is there way of telling you that they are not interested in the topic being talked about. All I can really say is just ask them. Go from there.

well i would try to mouth wash and if that doesnt work then its not you , its them, in that case you have nothing to worry about, maybe they just have an itch or something, i personaly would just come out with it and ask.

A sure-fire way of knowing if somebody is telling a white lie is if they continue to rub their nose while you are speaking to them (they may actually have an itch but no itch lasts for over 30 seconds). If they are telling a massive porky pie2, they will usually flay their arms to the side, fully outstretched.
