Why is the terminology different between driving on a parkway and parking in a driveway?

The term "Parkway" refers to roads that are large enough to have trees, thereby creating a "Park" effect around them. . . The "Driveway" of homes are named such to relate to the fact that you "drive" in and out of them.

LOL! U got that question from crazy english. Richard lederer. here is another one from his book. . When a house burns up, it burns down. Its just just one of those messed up things that the government has, once again, screwed up and mad us scramble our brains over. I really don't get it either other than a driveway was a like a..well...driveway to a house because it was on a drive (another name for a street) and I guess someone got the big idea to call it a driveway. But anyway..I blame George Bush for this one too. lol :P (No apparent reason)
