A bowed tendon is a thickening of a tendon due to an impact injury causing the outline of the back of the front leg to look slightly bowed out. . A bowed tendon denotes a previous injury and will most likely always remain suceptible to further injury.. . If you touch a bowed tendon you will also fell the slight difference in texture of the tendon, a bit like old scar tissue.

It is the acute or chronic inflamation of the tendon.. Much like tendonitis in humans.. It is seen mostly in horses used for fast work like race horses and barrel horses.. Treat with cold packs and cold hosing the leg or ice boot if you have them. And stall rest with only hand walking no turn out for 6-8 weeks.
