try to roll the white part of the cigarette in between your fingers, if the tobacco is hard and falls out of the end of the cigarette easily then its stale.

the only way to really know if a smoke is stale,is actually just smoking it..if you cough and it taste really bad and you decide that this is not a normal flavor then it is stale.
