Below are some excellent writeups from a diabetic runners. Seems like they just take in energy replacement drinks like non-diabetics.. . Also, sugar from fruit (fructose) is not recommended for runners as it may cause gastrointestinal problems. Many energy replacment drinks now use sucrose (aka table sugar).

The best is to mange your levels with a diet. Also make sure that you don't eat what is called kindling, surgur and stuff that will not last. I sure that your doctor has told you to eat good and excirse, the best way is talk to your doctor about what you should eat. Try to stay away from most energy bar as they are pack with sugar.

Bring with you a bottle of orange juice. You can add sugar in it. If you feel hypo just drink it. You'll be ok. Candies also.
