I out-grew the present receiving in my teen years learning that it is better give then to receive. I don't look for presents and haven't for many years but yet I still receive presents from my children and also give to them. I retain the family tradition of giving presents to my grand-children but stop giving once they graduate from High School.. Christmas to me is my religious teaching that it is the birth of Christ, and that still remains my thoughts of the celebration, and other religions celebrate in their own ways.. So it is not just another day to me but the day we worship the birth of the Christ child.

Because you still think of Christmas as a holiday to receive presents.. . As you get older it becomes more about the festive season and a time to celebrate family and friends. You can make the holiday what ever you want.. . I still love Christmas as much as I did when I was a kid. I love decorating my house, seeing my family and friends, cooking and baking. My family stopped exchanging gifts except for the kids because we thought it became too commercial. Now we all enjoy it more than ever.

Well at some point you're supposed to reach a point where it is not about receiving presents but you find the joy in giving gifts whether you spent money on them or just letting someone know how you feel about them. In other words some of the best gifts I've ever received were not something someone bought in a store.. . I still love Christmas as an adult. Yeah, it is different than when I was a kid but it is BETTER!! Especially when you have your own kids and get to watch their joy and wonder.

As a child we are taught about Santa Claus and we dream about all the things he could bring us. As teenagers it's what we want and if they don't get it they get very upset.. . Like gemmyt says we learn it's better to give than receive. After you grow up and have grandchildren it's the delight you see in their eyes as they open their present. We see the true meaning of Christmas and enjoy the giving instead of receiving. . . Christmas Day is just another, but to me Christmas Eve is very spiritual and there are the Christmas Eve services.

I love Xmas and each and every year it seems to get better! Sure its not like when we were kids! But I still find all the magic of Christmas thru my family- and just seeing the smiles and surprise on their faces as they open gifts is enough for me! Its an amazing time of year- people/strangers are kinder to each other- geeze if that just lasted all year- it would be even better! But Ill take what I can get!

When you grow up, you prefer to give them.

Christmas isn't about presents -- only the selfish think of it that way.. . It is a reminder to treasure those around us that we care about.. . A little gift is nice, as long as it is from the heart.. . This "black Friday" crap really gets to me. The store parking lots were packed.. . I don't care though -- I took my kids skiing -- we had a great time!

I don't mind the fewer and fewer presents, but the mass hysteria that accompanies the holidays gets me down.
