Why can't a cat that can jump five feet high jump through a three foot window?

Because it cannot jump THOUGH glass.. . If this was not a trick question then the answer is simply "they can" - assuming said window is open and large enough

well ask yourself that same question- would you jump on a trampoline or jump out the window? do you think your cat is stupid?

Cause, its got low self esteem and doesnt think highly enough of itself to make the jump. Try and when its sleeping play self help tapes. My cat had this problem, and the self help tape "You are and will be a trapizee jumper" really worked.

They will judge the height they feel comfortable jumping according to the safety of the landing point. So although a cat may jump 5 foot to the top of a fence made of wood which it can easily grip with its sharp claws, it may not jump 3 foot through a window without a deep enough sill to regain its balance. . Cats are very good at judging jumps and will know instinctively when something is unsafe.. Open the window wider - it may have a better chance of getting through in one leap and may decide to give it a go!
