Bones grow by adding on to the ends. Ossification at the ends of the bones, where the epiphysis discs are, particularly at the ends of long bones. . . When we become adults, those discs will be gone. Sometimes one hears of a child breaking a growth plate, that is what they are referring to the epiphysis. If a child breaks a growth plate, it will be very difficult for that child to have good bone development.
