How can I password protect a folder like a MS Word or MS Excel file?

in 2 steps:. 1.u have 2 compress this folder . 2.use the compressed folder 2 make a password protection(it's in the program options).. enjoy it.... bye:)

Go you one better - if you turn to an open source application (free) called Truecrypt, you'll be able to create an area on your hard-drive which is BOTH p/w protected AND encrypted (several encryption options available).. . VERY easy to use - the help menu will guide you through step by step. Ultra stable and well worth a look

There is programs to do that .... But I prefer to put the file you want to protect into a ZIP folder ( right click in some free space > new > ZIP folder ) ..... Then inside the zip folder and after you add the file you want to protect , right click in some free space > add new password .... . But I must say that no one can make changes without the password but anyone can delete it , and this is the problem ..

I have taught Word and Excel for years, and know of no way to password protect the entire folder. You apparently know how to password protect a file within a folder, but if you don't, here's how: Click on Tools, Security, Password to Open; enter the password and click OK. For goodness sake, don't forget the password, or you'll never get that file opened again.
