Why does the American flag on a soldier's uniform appear to be backwards?

The flag is backwards since thats the way it flies when charging...as with going with the wind. And american troops never retreat always forward to victory.

I would guess its like ambulance when you are running away and looking in the rearview mirror you will know whos is about to shoot you.

The Union Jack (The blue field with the stars in it), or Naval Ensign is always faced to the left of the viewer, with the stripes proceeding to the right, unless hung vertically. Then the Jack is in the upper right hand corner, with the stripes hanging down.

I can't answer this exactly, but what I know that when the flag is forwards means that America has declared war on a country and we are invading that country. Since we aren't invading anyone, our flag is in a neutral position.
