Best answer
Its a pretty careless thing to do losing a needle even near a haystack.. . Mythbusters did this last series ... they used a combination of high power magnets, water (to make hay float and needles sink), fire (to burn away hay), and plain luck.

i would do three things,use a metal detector,magnett or find it the hard way

By using a magnet, a metal detector or water. Dry hay floats. . . Even tougher though, how do you find a needle in a needle stack.
