The idea behind all "free trials" is that you won't cancel them (or will forget to cancel them) and then they can start charging you for the service. If they didn't get a credit card number, when the free trial was over that would be it. But, if you forget to cancel it, well, now you are signed up and out X dollars.

They want your credit card number becuase the instant your free trial is over they are going to start charging it onto your card. Yes it is dumb. Just dont forget to cancel if you dont want it anymore and youll be totally fine.

I know it's ridiculous! Everything you do you have to have a credit card! Even Netflix and things like that, why can't they just accept a money order? Money orders you know are good!

Because when that free trial is over, they automatically start to charge your card if you FORGET to cancel the trial subscription.. . It's a racket!
