You are entitled to a free credit report once a year. You should also be entitled to a free credit report if you were declined by a company when they checked your background.

You will have to proivde some personal information on the website, how else would they know that its not you and some one else trying to steal your identity.

Because they're not free. They want you to sign up for a service to monitor your credit. Each credit bureau is required to give you one free credit report a year. You have to get a hold of them to get it. NOT the "free" credit agencies.. . https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp

Nothin is free anymore.. however, if you give a creditor permission to your credit report- by law they have to give you a copy... there's your free copy- but the catch- it looks bad on your credit report if too many creditors are looking at it..

Because in order to get "free credit report" you have to sign up. You'll get your initial report and then you'll be charged to join a group. According to the laws you get one free report a year and have to pay for the rest, which really sucks because it's YOUR info and you shouldn't have to pay for it. By the way did you know that every time someone checks your credit it knocks down your credit score a little?
