Why do grapes and strawberries seem to freeze in my refrigerator even though the thermometers show 36 degrees?

Could be that different chemical compounds freeze at different temperatures. Water freezes at a lower temperature than 36 degrees but not everything does. That is also like why you put salt on ice to thaw it, it lowers the freezing point, so it has to be a lot colder before you get ice.

Get an insulated cup (styrafoam) fill it full of ice and then water. Stir the water and wait 5 minutes until the temperature equalizes. Put your themometer into the mixture of ice and water. See what it reads. If it reads 36°F, then re-calibrate your thermometer to read 32°F because ice water should be at 32°F!. . I bet your thermometer is out of calibration or where it is located is actually 4° warmer. Re-locate your thermometer and see what it reads.

i guess the reaction of the temperature check the temperature maybe it's broken or maybe you accidently put it on the wrong temperature if you put it on 32 or 36 maybe go a little higher! but to find out google i or find out on ask.com or if there is a museam or scinentists around you like professinals they will know.

Because your thermometers are not calibrated to 32 degrees or they are to close to the vent that brings in the air from the freezer compartment

I think the problem is that when you are not looking the temperature of the refrigerator drops below 32 degrees. This might happen after the defrost cycle when the thing is trying to bring the termperature back down to normal. The problem is that the freezer and the refrigerator both run off the same compressor and the freezer sort of controls things. Depending on your type of unit there should be a separate adjustment for the freezer and the fridge. Try making minor adjustment to both to see if you can cure the problem but only one at a time. Another thing is to put the stuff in a warmer part of the frig like the bottom compartments. They normally are warmer. Or in the door. It is normally warmer.
