Any kind of weird smell that liquids pick up from the freezer are usually from the surrounding food stored in there. Ice cubes made from home freezers are usually exposed to the contents inside, so the smells from all the food stored in there seeps in and thus the yucky smell. I recommend making your own ice cubes with filtered water, then after they freeze, quickly store them in a plastic container to keep odors out.

Ice absorbs flavors/smells from the other food around it. Make sure that all of the food in your refrigerator/freezer is sealed tight. Then make sure that you have a box of baking soda in each as well.

Ice absorbs the flavors of everything around it. So the ice in your freezer has absorbed the flavors of everything else in your freezer.. . Usually when you get ice at a restaurant or buy it bagged at the store, it comes from a machine that ONLY makes ice, so the ice does not come in contact with other foods.

The problem is the foods you keep in your freezer. You should have a water purifier on your water so that the water you use for your ice cubes is more pure and will have a better taste.. Also about once a month you should defrost your freezer and wash the inside down with bleach water about 20/50 until the smell deminishes also vacuum the debris from behind and under the freezer/fridge...

As far as your water goes, it probably started out bad, get the water quality checked. If it starts out bad it will stay bad.

bad water! the Ice is made with unfiltered/ creepy water. I have this problem with my ice maker in my freezer in my apartment. I stopped using it and put a filter on my tap. Ikea sells really cute cheap ice forms, and I use that instead. that nasty water stained the glasses with that smell and tainted everything with a creepy taste! once I started using the filtered water, it completely went away.
