a pre-dinner drink, as oopose to a digestif which is for after dinner.. . A good aperitif is one that stimulates the palate to increase appetite. Nothing bloating like a beer.

An apertif is a drink consumed before the meal to help stimulate digestion. Some common brands are Lillet and DuBonnet. Most drink Lillet on the rocks with an orange wedge, Dubonnet is great chilled.
