Why does the skin at the back of the finger, near the nail, sometimes peel?

Mine did that and then i realised that I was exposing my fingertips to acids (squeezing lemons, peeling oranges etc.) which was stripping my skin of it's natural oils particularly in this area where the nail base acts as a trap. Hand cream helps along with laying off the citrus, and/or cleaning chemicals (washing up liquid or perfumed soaps)

You need to use an orange stick to push back the cuticles- otherwise as the nail grows the cuticle is stretched and eventually 'pings' back in little ragnails.

problems with your nails may mean there are problems elsewhere. you may be deficient in something. or your diet could trigger nail problems.
