Because the apes were successful in their own evolutionary niche, and have not evolved further.. . For an interesting discussion of the topic, try reading "The Third Chimpanzee" by Jared Diamond.

It'd be nice if people got referred to a 'resolved questions' page every time they tried to post this witless bon mot.

In 1859 Charles Darwin published his book On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection.. Opponents of his view, notably the Christian Church, misunderstood his ideas and thought he believed that human beings evolved from apes.. This misunderstanding persists even today, nearly 150 years later! It is astonishing that so much education has failed to overcome this silly idea.. Humans and apes evolved from an animal that was not quite like either of them - a common ancestor. Apes have evolved alongside humans.

Darwin does not suggest that human beings evolved from apes, although we do share a common ancestor. All species descend with modifications in response to their enviroment. For instance, vestigal organs such as the appendix are no longer needed for our survival today. However, our ancestors needed this organ to aid in the digestion of their particular diet.

You have some confusion over the word evolution. Evolution is the appearance of new species from old ones. It is not replacement or morphing.
