Do you mean like the tibetan thangka paintings in Buddhism?. Where the image of the Buddha or Deities Mandala is symbolic meaning depicting the stages or path to enlightenment?. Yes these images are not ordinary art. They move the mind in subtle ways:)

Orientals more commonly open the third eye in their culture. They make art of what they "see".

I don't know that it is. . . I really enjoy some asian art that I have seen. Simple functional forms, also very human sides of stories of life.
