long, long ago, when there were still hares in the fields, in March when the sap began to rise the hares would start chasing each other around the fields in their peculiar mating rituals, hence the expression "mad as a march hare".

NCAA Men's basketball tournament, a knockout tournament with 64+ teams (sometimes, there's one extra team who tries to "play in" to the final 64). It has 4 regional brackets and the finalist of each region plays in the Final Four for the national championship. There is also a woman's basketball tournament which is getting increasingly popular, usually held right after the men's tournament is over.
