Why did George Washington chop down the cherry tree?

Because he was too lazy to climb up the ladder to get the cherries out of the tree, so he figured it would be easier to get the cherries if they were close to the ground, so he chopped the cherry tree down and then began picking out the cherries off the branches his aunt Edna would use to bake a cherry pie. But please, I could be wrong so don't hold me to this one. My google stopped googling

That was a story in a biography of Washington by Parson Weems in 1800s, “Life of Washington.”

Chuck Norris told George Washington that he could take the Cherry Tree out with a well placed roundhouse kick, but he would only do it if George would flat out lie to his dad and say he chopped it down. George Washington said "Do it."

So that he could then tell the truth about it, thus teaching everyone that it is always best to tell the truth.. . ;). . It is a myth, so it just served to move the story along.
