an infection. Clean it well after getting out as much puss as you can and then pour rubing alchohol on it. Do this 2-3 times a day till it stops hurting.

ouch!! sounds like an infected ingrown toenail. soak it and then pour hydrogen peroxide or alcohol on it. try to air it out. i know its cold but if your at home let it air out.
