Most teens like to be noticed so they attract as much attention as possible. Also teens mimic, and would do some of the so called hip things their favorite celebrity or other role models do. For some, it's all about fashion and style.

because they are young and impressionable and think it's cool. but when they get older, they will laugh at themselves for following such a stupid trend and will be embarrassed for ever doing it!

same reason people used to wear leggings and side ponytails, they think it's cool. some adults buy removable gold and platinum teeth.. thank god it's not permanate.
