I knew someone in high school who had this problem and she told me it was caused by having too much acid in her system. I don't remember it all that well as high school was about a century ago for me. At any rate, I don't believe that it's harmful, just an annoyance. Try switching to stainless steel jewelry or a higher quality of gold like 18 or 24 karat.

A pure gold ring cannot cause this. Probably the ring is of an alloy and you are allergic to it. Another possibility is that you are not able to get rid of the dirt, sweat etc that gets trapped beneath the ring. Easiest solution is to stop using a ring!Or wear a different ring in another finger and see! or remove the ring at night and use a emollient cream on your finger.

could be that it isnt a high enough grade of pure gold in the ring or it is only electroplated over sterling silver.

perhaps you are acidic. my dad is acidic and he can't wear gold(he can't even wear his wedding ring). you might opt for a hypoallergenic one if you like

Gold is mixed with other metals to make it stronger for rings and other jewelry. Pure gold (24K) is very soft. Sometimes the other metals will cause that to happen on some people. Try a different karat possibly.
