As a child, a particular segment of time seems to be longer than that same segment appears to an adult. This is because that same segment represents a much larger fraction of the amount of time that a child has experienced, versus the adult. Example: Waiting a month seems shorter to someone who is fifty, because he has experienced 600 of them. That same month seems much longer to a child of 5 who has only experienced 60 months in his life.

When we are young, we think we have all the time in the world. With so much time on our hands, it drags by so slowly.. . When we get older, we know how precious time is. We know that we only have so much time left and watch each precious second tick away so quickly.

I think that it has something to do with more obligations and responsibilites taking up our time. When we are younger, most of our time is focused on leisurely activities. As we grow older, there is more things to do and it always seems that there is never enough time to do it. I am twenty-two and I have noticed this since I graduated high school. Good Question...

Because we know that time is our enemy.... It's the unseen foe that you can never beat.... No matter how strong your empire, it eventually defeats you...

Because you tell a story to someone that seems like it happen just recently, then realize it was over 20 yrs. ago.. . From that point on, you will always be conscious of the passage of time.

Very good question. I have noticed this, as well. I know the reason, but it's hard to explain it in a way that's clear and understandable. When we are young, time is perceived differently. I remember, for example, how summertime seemed to last forever when I was out of grade school, like from the age of 5-10, and thereafter. One reason, I think, that time seemed to crawl by very slowly, was because I had not lived that long on the earth. At the tender age of ten, a year was an incredibly long time (by my own perceptions). But now, at the age of one and thirty, a year passes by, and it seems to fade away quickly. As we grow older, we have experienced more the passage of more time. So in that respect, what we once thought of as long periods of time seem shorter to us. It also has to do with relativity. For example, whenever I have fun, the time flies by fast...like when I am seeing a good movie, or playing fun video games, etc. But then, if things are boring or unpleasant, the time seems to linger on and on. There are two different kinds of time- Chronos time and Kairos time...but to be honest, I don't remember what the difference is.

I think it's because as children we look farther out in the future, as adults we look at it per day.
