How can I estimate the adult size of my Shih Tzu puppy?

Your breeder or puppy store should have both pictures and history of the puppy's parents. That will give you a very good idea of genetic size patterns. typically they range from 8-11 inches tall and 8-15 lbs.

check out the AKC's website at www.akc.org and they will give you all the breed's specifications.

If you know the father and mother of the shih-tzu, it's usually an average between the 2 weights. If it's female, probably no more than 8 to 10 pounds, depending on the diet you provide. If it is male - male dogs are typically larger than females - he could end up around 10-14 lbs (again, dep. on diet) . There have been exceptions of course, like all things pets, we never know FOR SURE. Just like people, they are always changing.

Ideally,height at withers is 9-10 1/2 inches. Ideally,weight of mature dogs,9-16lbs. These measurements are of a full grown Shih tzu
