Windows NT was the business line of Windows products - Windows 3.1, 3.11, 95, 98, ME, and XP Home edition are the line of home products. NT stood for "New Technology" is my understanding.

Windows NT is a sophisticated operating system oriented to business needs. It is a true 32-bit operating system that's specifically designed for client/server systems. The NT stands for network I believe. It was released in 1993.
