Uninstall firefox as well as delete your profile folder which is located in XP at:. C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR USER NAME\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox. re=download and reinstall. Sometimes there will be something goofy that gets in the profile.

Think you should try to do a virus scan on your computer, i found AVG viruse scan to be very powerful.

Check for the newest verison of firefox, I use firefox myself and I have noticed the same thing if my browser is out-of-date
