Because a doughnut shop is the most likely place to be open at all hours where they can grab something to eat, a cup of coffee and a quick pee before heading out to save one of your butt's from some psycho.

They don't. Not ALWAYS, at least.. . It's just some lame remark some one said probably 20 years ago that 'cops eat donuts'. Why, does a Police officer who doesn't eat donuts and a Police Officer who does make a difference. Will one of them not be able to save someone faster? ... what is it with some people, I'd really like to know. Do you not eat donuts? . . I met 3 Police Officers at Tim Horton's and hey they weren't eating donuts...

Nowadays they mostly eat Bagels instead. Having a breakfast food that can be eaten quickly without forks or knifes is useful to policemen, since they might be called away and not get a chance to sit at a table and have a full meal.
