you would sleep all day too if you were bored! Don't expect so much from your dog. He doesn't expect you to perform all the time.

I don't understand what the problem is with him sleeping all the time. I have one that does that, she is about 18 y/o.

Maybe you should take your dog to the vet.He shouldn't be sleeping all the time.Maybe your dog is not feeling well.Better get your dog a check-up.Maybe he's not getting enough vitamins.

How old is your dog? Does it have a weight problem? Is he outside all the time? If he's outside he probably guards the house at night.

This largely depends on the breed of dog, diet and age. If it is a young dog (less than 7) and is a normally active breed, look at diet. If the diet is a general manufacturer, then it's possible there is some diabetes, or other internal issue. Take a look at the AKC website for your animal's breed under characteristics. Go to a PetsMart or similar store and read up from more than one source. If it's that important, I'd even take the animal to the vet and get some lab tests run. Most of all, get the vet involved! Having raised and trained German Shepherd Dogs, the vet is my first stop, not an internet chat or Q/A room.

Dogs are supposed to sleep like 15 hours a day. They require a lot of sleep. They don't have a whole lot else to do. You didn't say what kind of dog you had so it's really hard to say. Do so research on the internet and see what type of dog you have and how much sleep they should require. If you are really that concerned, go to your vet. Dogs do love the sun so he's probably just hanging out, keeping warm and relaxing.
