Why do people neglect proper grammar and spelling online?

I think it's mostly done by people who want to show that they are 'hip' and with the trend of young people on the internet. Either that, or they are concious of the fact they really can't spell, and by doing it on purpose they mask that fact.

Well other than being cool it's a way of showing that you are not a complete square such as yourself...anyway what does it matter to you I'm sure you had nothing to do with creating our whole human language so if folks wanna add a lil favor to it ah tha mo fun! besides, why abbreviate your last name kinda defeats your whole reasoning behind your question...right?!I am sorry... but I also have to say just because they like to think of different ways to spice up our way of plain grammar doesn't mean that they don't know the proper way to use it!Some kids are smarter than you think don't judge them before you really know them it's fun for them and it keeps us on our toes!

I sometimes type like that first example, the other ones are kinda weird. I only do it cause it's faster.

not only are people lazy, they are impatient. Why waste "valuable" time typing full words when you can just type a letter? I don't think that proper grammar is really taught in most public schools these days, so they don't even know how to write properly. It's becoming a language unto itself and that is a real pity.

because if they are like me they had no formal training with a keyboard and so its a way of typing faster.
