I think it's important for people to know fundamental grammar/spelling, but if you can easily understand someone even though they're technically wrong, then what does them being "wrong" matter? I think in a forum such as this site! Answers it's a lost cause - you're better off saving grammatical criticism/analysis for a more formal setting. Besides, language is constantly evolving, and given the internet's relative youth, there's a lot of evolving going on in the way people communicate online - not all of it is bad.

I wouldn't criticize or mention anything about the person's spelling and grammar. Just let it go and know that your education will take you farther than them.

I don't know, but it bothers me tremendously. There are times it is so bad you can't even understand what some one is trying to say. I don't think you're acting superior at all...it is becoming a growing problem. I think it needs to be addressed. This cannot be ignored. Do you know about the problems Bill Cosby had? I totally agree with him, that it shows one is uneducated. I find it irritating that people are too lazy to use proper spelling and grammer. In addition, I think people should have some poise on this site. Some of the questions on here are unbelievable!

I think first you need to figure out exactly what the importance of it is. Once you have done that, it should be easy to explain it to people.

well, spelling and grammar weren't only really standardized untill the early 1800's, I feel that this is just the next evolution in the english language, an optimization if you will. There are diff types of english, look at the difference between a novel, peotry, and a letter to a freind. I think that having a form that is easy to write for non-verbal social comunication is a good thing.

you're right it is getting out of control... but in the media, tehy use these spelling and grammar flaws to identify with the underclass and the younger folk. its not that tehy dont knwo how to spell and stuff, its just that they use these tactics to reach a certain group of people
