Americans in groups can tend to be loud, obnoxious, seem to think they're better than others (sorry, experience). i think this is encouraged a lot more in american culture than european.. . PS... i have american friends who i like on their own, but in groups, wellll...

Yes, that's never made any sense to me either. It's just like: Why do certain white people not like black people? I mean, no kind of racism makes any sense or serves any purpose, it's just the way some people are raised.

For the same reasons many Americans don't like Americans.

Becuase they think we're ignorant and lazy. and thats partially true-i.e we don't bother learning their languages but they learn ours.

I think, that people are not Americans, Gypsies, Russian, Vietnamese...BUT good or bad (character).. BUT, what I also think is that every nation/race etc. has something specific, what is valid on 3/4 of its people.. so I think, that many Americans (U.S.) think, that USA is the middle of the world. And I don't like this point of view... I think, there are lot of beautiful cultures, but USA is something eclectic - no own culture.. the second think, what I don't like is that all over the world people SAY America and MEAN U.S. . America is North America (with USA, Canada, Mexico...) and South America (with Brazil, Argentina, Columbia, Peru, Chile, Paraguay.......). that's my opinion.

They probably associate us all with our government. You have to admit, some of us do seem pretty arrogant.

That's kind of closed-ended question. But, I think there is a perception that we're not very sophisticated? However, America is so huge that I think it's impossible to for Europeans to overgeneralize and dislike "Americans". I think, politically, I can understand if they equate the Bush administration to Americans and dislike us because of his administration. Otherwise, I don't think it's possible all Europeans dislike all Americans.
