Why do we have traffic laws if no one follows them?

THey do these thing because they are selfish and inconsideragte. The laws are in place for a reason. Breaking them does not signal the ned for their abolition.

Not all drivers do this. I drive the speed limit, or within 4 mph of it. I allow other drivers in, don't slam on my breaks. I signal all lane changes even if no one is there.. . Some people feel that a traffic ticket is such a minor thing that they can flaunt the law. They probably wouldn't feel this way if they realized their actions were similar to walking down a street and firing a gun in random directions. Eventually you're going to kill or maim someone.

In response to the sub-questions about running red lights and so on, the answer is that people do it because they get away with it. People only need to get away with a behaviour a few times before they learn to do it and the behaviour becomes automatic.
