How do I obtain a Social Security number after being approved for a permanent resident card?

You don't need to wait until you are approved for your green cdard to obtain your SScard. You may receive it after you have obtained employment authorization by filing an I-765 form with a pending I-485 if your status is currently available.. . It is desirable to personally appear at the SS office rather than mailing.. . I'm an immigration attorney, and this is old hat.

Once you are in US and you will get a green card and social security card by mail.
