Why do medical professionals wear light blue or green scrubs in the operating room instead of red or white?

Because they are colours that will show up better if any part of their clothing, e.g. a loose thread, gets left in a patient. Red items will not show up against blood, white things also look red when they are saturated with blood.. . It is the same reason food-preparation workers have to use blue plasters (band-aids) for cuts - if it comes off, it will show up in the food.

These colors are more calming for one. Do you want your surgeon in there surrounded with an uneasy color? These colors are more soft and easily shows any fluids that may be leaking from the body of a patient.
