What is the meaning of the phrase 'going dutch'?

It means paying for yourself and yourself only. Such as, you are going out to dinner with a group of friends. Nobody in particular is expected to pick up the tab for the entire group so everyone would be "going dutch"

splitting a bill 50/50. For example if you and a friend go out to lunch together you split the bill.
