The problems started between North Vietnam and South Vietnam. The North becoming communist. We stepped in to save the people in the south from this way of life and so that communism did not spread. Many of our religious organizations were already in there concerting the south vietnamese to christianity, catholisim, and other beliefs. We felt if was important to keep these people in the Western thinking. The problem was we went in not expecting it to last long and it lasted ten year, and too many American lives were lost or ruined to disabilities. The jungles were there backyard and they knew how to use them to there benefit. And our military could not distinquish between the look of good vietnamese and the bad. They all seemed to look alike. And they used there kids to kill.. . It was another horrible was that was not necessary. Our leaders used it as a tool for their parties and their own benefit. And now history repeats itself.
