If citizens voted on all of the issues, what would Congress do? They're put in office to represent their district's votes. If people voted on every issue (good luck with that), then it makes Congress useless.

That would only happen in a true democracy, which is NOT the system setup by the US constitution, depite the over-use of the word. The USA is actually a republic (think back to school days... "and the republic for which.." ?), and that's how republics work.. . Note that I'm not taling about Republican and Democratic policicians, but the systems of govenment using those names...

You are given the chance to voice your will. Write your Congressman or your Senator. They read your letter and consider it when they vote. At least that's what they say is how it works. If you have a Republican in office they will do what the Corporations want and ignore your letter. The Corporations give them lots of cash to do what the Corporations want not what you want.

You have a GREAT idea, the only problem is that any Internet hacker could easily corrupt the voting and that would be worse than letting only congress vote on the issues. Right now there just isn't a way to make Internet voting totally secure.

if everybody voted on every issue, it would be a true democracy. america, however, isn't a democracy. America is a representative republic. we vote on our congressmen and senators to fote on our behalf in congress and in the senate. same thing takes place in state governments and even the town council. that is why it is very important to vote in every election in your area, so that the person sent to represent you, actually is the person you want.
