CaCO3 is Calcium carbonate ,the main constituent of chalk, marbles, limestone , snail shells etc. . The main cause of hardwater. This is a white solid ( powder).. On the other hand,CaO is calcium oxide popularly called quicklime or burnt lime this is a white crystalline solid.. If you heat CaCO3 to about 825 degree centigrade, it decomposes to give CaO and gaseous CO2 is also released.. . Hope this is good enough for what u need! If you need some more I recommend wikipedia. just google and it will turn up!

A lot of people have told you it is calcium carbonate which is correct. It is an ionic compound with each molecule made from a Ca ++ ion (positive charge 2) and a carbonate ion (CO3)-- (negative charge two). The Carbon and 3 Oxygen atoms in the carbonate ion are held together by covalent forces. The Ca ion and Carbonate ion are held together ionic (charge) attraction. Hope that helps a bit more.
