If you do not have any credit history, you can get a student credit card from most major banks. DO NOT PUT ANY MONEY DOWN.

Discover was the first company to give me a credit card. They are very good.. . And, whatever you do, DO NOT PUT MONEY DOWN! (watch out for "annual fees") You should never have to pay fees on top of the interest you pay these companies.

Call up the bank or credit union that you deal with and ask if they have a student credit card program. I know some credit union will automatically qualify college students and give them a credit card with a $1000 limit. Just call around and ask.

Go to http://www.creditcards.com and that site will help you find the card that is right for you. But I can tell you that Chase and Discover are great companies to be with. I have been with them a long time and they have never steered me wrong.
