Actually, his is quite normal for a lot of dogs. When dogs greet each other they sniff each other out and your dog is trying to show he is the boss dog by being the strongest smelling.. . Clean up any poop before he/she lies in it. Say 'NO' firmly if it attempts to do it, then clean it up before it gets another chance to do it. Once you have done this for a while and prevented him/her rolling in it etc. you will break the chain and the dog will be less likely to want to do it.

Because she doesnt have a choice. This is not normal behavior so please keep her area cleaner. You need to ask yourself why.....

I have never heard of a dog doing this. Don't you clean up her poop? How can she lay in it? Is she in an exterior cage or something? Is her area so filled with poop that she has no choice? That would be bad. . . I would check with my vet because I do not think dogs do that normally.

Do you keep her caged where she cannot get away from her poop? That is probably the problem. She doesn't have anywhere else to lay.

I had a labrador puppy that did this.. . She was a very sick dog, we adopted her at a local pet store. She had hip problems, stomache problems, and kidney issues...I'm sure there were more. But, due to the extreme hip pain she had at only six months of age we put her down.. . I do hope you will take her to the vet and find out why she is doing this. It isn't normal for dogs to sleep in their own poop.. . It is more normal for them to sniff and eat it than to lay in it.
